President Salome Zourabichvili has awarded posthumously the title of National Hero of Georgia to Lieutenant-Colonel Dimitri Amilakhvari of the French Foreign Legion during an event held in France on the occasion of the centennial of the recognition of the Democratic Republic of Georgia by France. The President presented the award to Lieutenant-Colonel Amilakhvari’s descendants at the Palais des invalides in Paris.

Dimitri Amilakhvari was awarded the title of National Hero of Georgia for his dignified representation of Georgia on the international arena, for his invaluable contribution to the creation of a particularly positive attitude toward Georgia and for his self-sacrifice for universal values.
