An interview was conducted with the candidates vying for membership in the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) Council at the Administration of the President

The commission, created by the President of Georgia to select candidates for membership on the Board of the National Bank, held interviews with the applicants today.

Today, out of the 28 candidates submitted to the administration, the commission listened to 8 candidates who were selected unanimously as a result of the discussion.

According to the chairwoman of the commission, Tamar Sulukhia, the commission will proceed with its work and will further deliberate on the interviews of these candidates to compile a definitive list for the president.

"We welcome this transparent process initiated by the President of Georgia, ensuring that the selection of members for the Board of the National Bank will be fully transparent to the public.

The commission has chosen a shortlist out of 28 candidates, among whom were the 8 selected by consensus, with whom we conducted interviews today.

As for the criteria used to select the shortlist, consensus played a crucial role. Only candidates who received unanimous votes from all commission members were included. In exceptional cases, where there were concerns about conflicts of interest, specific waivers were granted. For instance, in my case, there was one such applicant, and for Mr. Archil, there were two," explained Tamar Sulukhia.

The Commission will present the interview results to the President by May 1.

The members of the commission are - Tamar Sulukhia, director of ISET and ISET Research Institute at TSU International School of Economics (chairwoman of the commission); Archil Mestvirishvili, former member of the Council of the SEB; Nikoloz Kavelashvili, dean of the Faculty of Business, Technology, and Education at Ilia State University; and Giorgi Isakadze, General Producer of the media company BMG.

Applications for the 4 vacant positions of NBG Council members were received in the President's Administration from February 7 to March 1, 2024. A total of 28 individuals expressed their desire to become members of the NBG Council, from whom the Commission selected 8 candidates.
