Today, the Commission established by decree of the President announced the competition for the Shota Rustaveli Prize. The announcement was made during the inaugural session of the Commission, which took place at the Administration of the President, at the Orbeliani Palace. The session was chaired by philologist Valeri Asatiani.

The Prize is granted to a person for important work in the fields of literature, music, cinema, theatrical art, fine arts or architecture whose artistic merits have gained universal national recognition and are imbued with the universal ideals of patriotism, freedom, and humanism.

The Prize is issued once every three years to up to five individuals and consists of 10,000 GEL. The winner will be awarded with a prize laureate's diploma, a badge, and a corresponding monetary award.
