President Zourabichvili and President Macron Sign the Declaration of Cooperation on Establishing the Dimitri Amilakhvari Georgian-French Dialogue

President Salome Zourabichvili and President Emmanuel Macron signed the Declaration of Cooperation on Establishing the Dimitri Amilakhvari Georgian-French Dialogue that aims at advancing cooperation in political and parliamentary areas, defence and security, trade and economy, culture and education.

“As part of the meeting held in Paris on February 19, 2019, between President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili and President of the Republic of France Emanuel Macron;

Taking into consideration the fundamental principles included in the agreement on Mutual Understanding, Friendship and Cooperation between the Republic of Georgia and the Republic of France signed in Paris, on 21 January 1994;

Taking into account the impressive dynamics of bilateral cooperation between Georgia and France after the restoration of diplomatic relations;

Emphasizing importance of high level political dialogue between Georgia and France;

Declare the establishment of the Dimitri Amilakhvari Georgian-French Dialogue that aims at developing and deepening cooperation in political and parliamentary areas, defence and security, trade and economics, culture and education;

Co-chairs of the above-mentioned dialogue will be the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and France;
The dialogue will be held once a year, using the rotation principle in Tbilisi and Paris;

Signed in Paris, on February 19, 2019, on both Georgian and French languages. The both texts are equally authentic,” the declaration reads.

Dimitri Amilakhvari, born on October 31, 1906, was a Lieutenant Colonel of the French Foreign Legion, of Georgian origin. He played an influential role in the French Resistance against Nazi occupation in World War II, and became an iconic figure of the Free French Forces. In October 1942, he was killed in action on the second day of the Second Battle of El Alamein.
