Remarks by Parliamentary Secretary Giorgi Mskhiladze

Today, an unprecedented event occurred in the history of Georgia. The judiciary has unlawfully interfered with the constitutional authority of the President by suspending the appointment of a member of the Supreme Council of Justice. According to the Constitution of Georgia, the President has full and exclusive authority to appoint a member of the Supreme Council of Justice.

First, the judiciary does not have the right to interfere in this process.

Second, this action violates the principle of separation of powers.

Third, it demonstrates the judiciary's clannish rule, where even a single dissenting opinion is deemed unacceptable in the Supreme Council of Justice.

This interference with the President's constitutional powers is unacceptable and undermines the constitutional order of Georgia. Today's events are unprecedented and constitute a tragedy for the entire nation. It must be known that no one has the power to strip the democratically elected head of state of their constitutionally granted rights.

We call upon society, the diplomatic corps, the international community, international organizations, and OSCE/ODIHR, who are observing the candidacy selection process for the Supreme Council of Justice member, which is completely transparent, to respond appropriately to this issue.

We remind the public that the plaintiff addressed the court today, July 22. The court accepted the claim today, July 22. The newly appointed member of the Supreme Council of Justice was scheduled to take office tomorrow, July 23.
