BRIEFING OF PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY OF THE PRESIDENT OF GEORGIA, GIORGI MSKHILADZE

Briefing of Parliamentary Secretary of the President of Georgia, Giorgi Mskhiladze:

For the first time, the President of Georgia has filed a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court of Georgia. The lawsuit challenges the " Transparency of Foreign Influence," also known as the so-called Russian law, arguing that it is unconstitutional and violates Article 78 of the Constitution of Georgia.

The lawsuit also challenges several provisions of the law that infringe upon various fundamental rights guaranteed by the constitution. Through this lawsuit, the President requests both the suspension and the final cancellation of the law.

I would also like to address the second issue, which pertains to the President's appointment of a member of the Supreme Council of Justice.

As you know, the President has the authority to make this decision independently and nominate a member to the Supreme Council of Justice. However, for the sake of transparency, the President established a selection commission on June 21, which has completed its work and presented two candidates to the President.

Today, the President of Georgia issued a decree appointing Kakha Tsikarishvili as a member of the Supreme Council of Justice. We hope that this practice will be continued in the future for selecting judges within the judicial system, as it serves as a positive example.
