The selection commission for membership in the Supreme Council of Justice of Georgia, established by the President's decision, held interviews with the candidates participating in the competition today at Orbeliani Palace.
The following candidates participated in the interview process: Giorgi Burjanadze, Dimitri Gabunia, Manuchar Kakochashvili, Kakha Tsikarishvili, and Tamar Alphaidze.
The commission will develop recommendations related to the candidates and submit them to the president.
The interview process was attended and monitored by experts from the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). They stated, 'An independent judicial system is vital for every democracy.' To ensure the independence of the Georgian justice system and adherence to international human rights standards, ODIHR monitors the appointment processes in the Supreme Council of Justice of Georgia at the invitation of the Office of the President.
A detailed monitoring report will be published later this year, outlining our key findings on the transparency and fairness of the process, as well as recommendations for improving the appointment process in the future.
The ODIHR has developed a set of valuable monitoring tools that can be used to oversee judicial appointments and vetting processes in the OSCE region," stated the announcement issued by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).
