The President discussed the upcoming elections scheduled for October, current events in the country, and Georgia's European integration process with the parliamentary delegation from the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
At the meeting held at the Orbeliani Palace, the President emphasized the importance of the October 26 elections, noting that they will carry the significance of a referendum for the country. The elections will present the Georgian population with a choice between Europe and Russia. Additionally, the President stressed that mobilization and involvement of society, youth, and the diaspora will be crucial for these elections.
The delegation, visiting Georgia as part of its regional tour, expressed great interest in the ongoing processes within the country and praised the President’s efforts toward European integration.
During the meeting, the conversation touched on the so-called Russian law. It was noted that the President and non-governmental organizations are planning to use all available legal mechanisms, both in Georgia and in Strasbourg, to halt the implementation of this harmful law, which threatens Georgia's European path.
The President reiterated that she will veto any law that harms the country's European path.
The conversation also addressed the ruling team's anti-European and generally anti-Western rhetoric. The President emphasized that the decision by the USA, Georgia's main strategic partner, and the European Union to freeze funding and exercises for the strengthening of Georgia's defense sector sends a very negative signal to Russia. She noted that Georgia is at a crucial stage and that the Georgian people need to feel the support of their European and American partners.
At the meeting, they discussed the significance of the Georgian Charter, an action plan developed by the President to implement the European Union's recommendations as quickly as possible. The signatories to the Charter have committed to fulfilling their obligations, returning Georgia to its European integration path, and initiating accession negotiations with Brussels.
